The RT-AC59U has received positive feedback in several reviews. It seems to be a model exclusive to Europe and Asia. It appears designed to meet the requirements of users in compact living spaces.
Great! This sounds interesting. The main reason was thinking Xbox needed port 53 forwarded, mainly because their guide on open ports was a bit unclear. I only realized my error after setting up my pihole. Thankfully, I’m forwarding ports only to specific devices, not across the whole network. How does this sound? It’s a bit more costly than 1000 kr, but it performs well. This is the router I mentioned for use as a bridge. What do you think, Alex Atkin? I really like Netgear’s web interface and its features. I think it works well with DD WRT and Fresh Tomato. If you need something else, it doesn’t work with Open WRT due to limited open-source drivers from Broadcom.
The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 matches your requirements and is reasonably priced.
Sure, that makes sense. It's always helpful when they back custom firmware, because you get a backup if they stop supporting the standard firmware or add a bug, and it lets users check NAT performance. Of course, I wouldn't suggest using DD-WRT unless the official version meets all your needs.
It seems likely the absence of coverage on SNB stems from them only evaluating a small portion of routers initially. Testing NAT performance is so infrequent that most reviews focus on general broadband rather than detailed metrics. It’s frustrating when few tests actually measure NAT behavior, relying instead on external services like speedtest.net whose results vary daily. A dedicated channel such as Hardware Unboxed would be ideal for in-depth router coverage.
