I have a GA-Z97M-D3H mobo with an I5 LGA 1150 processor. I plan to upgrade to Windows 11 and am considering the Intel Core i7-4790 CPU. The mobo has a 20 pin socket for a TPM, which should be fine. All the fans are Noctua and the case operates very quietly. Will the 4790 work with Windows 11? I receive mixed responses. This seems like a good spot to get a definitive answer.
TIA - Mark
PS: I often use the PC for Blu-Ray ripping but want it to function as a main HTPC.
Edit: Perhaps Rufus could assist.

Yes, if you force it.
How to Install Windows 11 on an Unsupported PC
Does Windows 11 say your PC isn't supported? We've got the fixes.

No, if you don't.
There is a possibility that future updates to Windows 11 may not work on unsupported hardware. The latest version makes a lot of CPUs straight up incompatible.
Consider Linux, that is my plan this weekend.

I previously used Ubuntu and it led to unstable issues with my Nvidia GPU. I suspect the updates might have contributed. If I repeat this, I'll opt for the LTS version without any updates. Appreciate your feedback.

Nvidia and Linux have some compatibility issues, but AMD is the preferred GPU for Linux. It's mentioned that Linux Kernel 6+ supports Intel Arc natively, so the author plans to test it. Intel provides drivers mainly for Ubuntu, which seems focused on the GPGPU area.

The Haswell CPU includes built-in graphics. Though limited in power, Intel GFX functions smoothly on Linux, making it suitable for office tasks. Nvidia support on Linux is also decent, though not ideal.
