AVG often caused issues with networks during uninstallation, sometimes pretending to be a problem I faced myself. I’m not sure if it still does this. However, what attracts me to Avast is the boot-up scan feature—it checks the PC before the operating system starts, looking for hidden kernel threats that might go unnoticed.
The scan during startup would likely add a small delay to booting times, but it shouldn’t significantly affect performance. Using a 120GB Samsung 850 EVO as a boot drive is standard and should work smoothly.
I've managed to set it up or remove it without any issues for the last six years... it's convenient since I don't need constant intensive scans. I prefer active scanning which uses no CPU and catches new threats quickly. I also appreciate its appearance, though Avast performs just as well.
I believe we really need some improvement here, or we should look into suitable software options. This question seems excessive. The thread should remain sticky, but it’s important to check for errors first. On a different note: for free antivirus protection, consider Avira or Bitdefender. Bitdefender is lighter on resources, though it offers fewer customization choices. If you prefer something paid, Kaspersky or Avira would be better options. I’d likely choose Kaspersky because their team has uncovered many security vulnerabilities in the past. You might also explore AVTEST, an independent service that rates antivirus programs (Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the top two). Also, consider using Malwarebytes weekly or as needed—just remember not to accept its trial version and turn it off at startup.
It requires some time to process all files, including boot files, and I only run it occasionally. It goes quite thoroughly. The passive scanner in Avast is relatively light (not the best, but I don’t even feel a difference on my 4690k). After the active scan starts (about once a week around 5 AM), you’ll notice a slight slowdown, though you can adjust the timing or skip it if needed.
