I'm searching for an affordable Wi-Fi extender to connect your home theater. You already have a strong 5GHz network, but some older devices only work with slower Wi-Fi. You mentioned using a D-Link 862L in AP mode with DD-WRT, but it doesn't seem to work through the main router. You also tried a client bridge.
It's challenging, and I can't create any openings in the wall.
Review the link provided. Instead of laying a cable, utilize your home’s power lines using the adapters mentioned. I’m planning to try this too. Powerline Adapter from Newegg I’m relocating my desk across the house and opted for these adapters to test. Additionally, I’m connecting a desktop dumb switch to them and bridging an older wireless router with my primary router for another access point on the opposite side of the house. Hope it works.
I'm comfortable with powerline adapters and have thought about using them before. My earlier experience wasn't very positive, though they might be better now. Since these devices are on separate circuits in the house, they'd need to switch at the breaker panel, which could add delay and interference.
The transition between circuits isn't too problematic for latency (with my Steam link I'm aiming for the lowest possible penalties), though it significantly affected signal integrity and introduced artifacts. It might have been caused by a low-quality adapter.
