Looking for advice on boosting your i5-8600k's performance?
Hello,
I’m just starting out with overclocking and built my PC only a few days ago. Here are my details:
CPU: i5-8600k
CPU Cooler: be quiet! PURE ROCK SLIM
Motherboard: MSI Z370-A Pro
GPU: Radeon RX 580 8G V1
RAM: G.Skill - Flare X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133
Recently, I experimented with a small overclock at 4.5 GHz and 1.13 CPU voltage, but I encountered memory issues. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Should I also overclock the RAM? Is it better to do this using MSI Afterburner or through the BIOS? Also, could you suggest some safe overclocks for my setup?
Thank you for your help, and please don’t take it personally since I’m still learning.
Intel upgraded the standard DDR4 clock speed to DDR4-2666 for these chips, moving from DDR4-2400 in the prior generation. A minimum memory frequency of 2666MHz is suggested for high-end Coffee Lake systems; anything below that appears to significantly hurt performance. An alternative is 3200MHz memory for CPU overclocking, using CL14 or CL15 configurations. A 3200 MHz CL16 model is comparable in speed to a 3000 MHz CL14, so this option is worth considering. Flare X is tailored for AMD Ryzen systems. Constructed from precisely chosen IC chips that have been thoroughly tested on the AM4 platform, the Flare X line offers optimal compatibility and stability for AMD Ryzen processors.
