Hi everyone, I'm planning to replace my RAM and aim for a 64GB capacity instead of the current 32GB. I'm also curious about whether dual or quad channel RAM would be preferable. I remember hearing mixed things about this, but being informed wouldn't hurt. My current setup includes: CPU - Intel Core i9 14900K, GPU - RTX 5090 ASUS Astral OC, CPU cooler - Lian Li Galahad II LCD, motherboard - ASUS ROG Z790 Gaming Wifi (BIOS version 2801), RAM - Corsair VENGEANCE 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 DRAM 6000MT/s CL36, SSD - Samsung 980 Evo M.2 for OS and games, and a 1200W ASUS ROG Strix PSU.

Dual channel is the best option, no matter the platforms. Choosing 4 sticks of RAM can put extra strain on the integrated memory controller; it may look good in a build but often causes instability or lower performance. Still, consider a 2x32GB DDR5-6000MHz kit with a slightly higher frequency, featuring Intel's X.M.P as advertised.

There is no Quad channel option for consumer CPUs or systems. Only server-based CPUs such as Xeon, Threadripper and Epyc are available. The best approach is to use two dual channel memory modules from a single set of four, though speed may be limited so it doesn't overload the IMC. A single dual channel (two sticks) can operate at higher frequencies than four sticks, but this reduces total capacity to half. First consider how much memory you actually require—speed isn't the same as frequency, and even doubling frequency offers little benefit if RAM is consistently insufficient. Kits with 2x32GB of RAM are typical; if you don’t need more than 64GB, such a kit is usually sufficient.

You're considering an upgrade because 32gb is sufficient for a gaming rig, and adding faster RAM could slightly improve performance, though the gain would be minimal.

I'm located in the UK and my budget is tight, honestly I don't really know the current price for RAM. I think around $150 would be a reasonable estimate, but I'm not too concerned about it.

I'm planning to upgrade my RGB sticks because they don't fit well with my current setup. Instead of just buying another identical one without RGB, I might as well make an improvement.

Be cautious with the Neo series of RAM kits from G.Skill—they are designed specifically for AMD's AM5 platform. If you're opting out of LED lighting or color options, this might be a suitable alternative; see the link provided. For those with a larger budget, consider the Dominator Titanium RAM kits from Corsair.

What amount are you considering spending? There are also 96gb kits available.

I was aiming for 64gb, but I'm okay with the same if it offers faster speeds and lower latency without RGB.

I notice this model is CL40 for the important RAM, and I'm wondering if switching from CL36 will make a clear change.
