Looking for additional guidance on building?
I have two configurations:
Intel Build
:
Intel Build Link
AMD Build
:
AMD Build Link
Issues:
Compatibility Problem with AMD Motherboard
:
There seems to be a compatibility problem with the motherboard. Is it simple to resolve? I don’t recall the last time I had to install something for one.
Performance Variation
:
Should there be a clear performance gap between the two configurations?
Build Comparison
:
Do the configurations perform well together? Please let me know if any adjustments are required, particularly concerning the motherboard.
The AMD board appears to differ in quality from the Intel model. I’m not too impressed with the AMD option. What factors should I consider when choosing a motherboard beyond RGB lighting and slots? I need it to support DDR5 at high speeds and work with the right CPU generation.
Cost Considerations
:
It’s difficult for me to justify running an i9-13900K because of its heat output. That’s why I’m thinking about upgrading to AMD.
Goals for the Builds:
Focused on gaming, storage speed, and appearance.
I want a quiet system but am willing to move forward.
I’m also keeping an eye on the upcoming Intel Ultra and the 50 series. I’d appreciate knowing how the builds stack up and if any changes are needed, especially regarding the motherboard.
The link to the AMD build isn't functioning. Double-check the URL you shared above.
We need to clarify what we're talking about regarding storage performance, as its interpretation depends on personal preferences. For aesthetics, it's important to recognize that beauty is subjective, so you'll have to decide on your own style. When it comes to gaming, consider specifying the types of games you plan to run without mentioning specifics.
You'd like a quieter system, but I'm willing to move forward.
Noise levels are also personal, similar to design choices, since some people can hear the fan's ticking while others can't. Some opt for headphones to listen to games and avoid hearing the noise. You might explore Noctua fans if silence is your main concern, though they don’t offer LED models. Quiet LED fans tend to have poor airflow and static pressure.
Your Intel build appears solid; I wouldn’t recommend a 13th Gen processor and would skip the secondary wireless adapter/card.
I’m also keeping an eye on the upcoming Intel Ultra and the potential 50 series.
You mentioned you’re in a thread here too; Build Advice - New build

I’m trying to assemble a high-end hobby machine. The goal is to avoid overclocking. I want a 40 series card paired with a CPU that won’t cause bottlenecks. Dimensions: 354 - 543mm (14.0 - 21.5") width and 170 - 300mm (6.7 - 11.8") height. Weight capacity up to 25kg (55lb). I’m not too...
The AMD link needs improvement. After spending roughly 2-3 hours studying Intel motherboards, I found out the i9-13K tends to overheat—a fact I’ve often teased. The problem is that I’m not really happy with the AMD board compared to my first pick, even though I can’t clearly explain it. Let me know if you’d like any changes!
We aren't sure about the reasoning behind your board selection. The numbers 390 and 605 are quite high, yet there could be strong justifications beyond what's obvious. What makes them right for you? The AMD board seems to need a BIOS update, which typically takes about ten minutes—either it works perfectly or you might face unexpected issues. Your decision might stem from solid reasons that make you comfortable with the risk. Personal preferences play a big role here, such as noise sensitivity and temperature comfort. You might lean toward a "cool but noisy" setup versus a "quiet but hot" one. We don't know your exact position on this spectrum. The claim about gaming and storage performance doesn't give much clarity either; it lacks specific details. It's possible you've made a particular choice based on something else.
For both systems you need to upgrade the BIOS version—Intel for safety and AMD for performance. You selected the most expensive MBs, but they only differ in features compared to cheaper ones without impacting performance. It might be wise to wait a month or two for new processors, chipsets, and GPUs, either to improve performance or to get these parts at a lower cost.
OP, please note your location(s) as it appears the USA is selected in the drop-down menu at the top right of your PCPartPicker page, which some users have done before. Your exact budget, preferred purchasing site, and the reason for building this project are important details here. This thread covers all the necessary points you mentioned. *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* This guide is based on adapting the original *How To Ask For New Build Advice* post. I made it because many people are now seeking upgrade tips both in this forum and on CPU discussion boards, and I believe... forums. so the community can offer more helpful suggestions. You seem to have overlooked a few of my earlier questions. Regarding your AMD setup, you’ve changed the motherboard and CPU but haven’t added a separate discrete GPU to your list. Also, it looks like you didn’t mention needing a second wireless adapter, since both boards already include WiFi and Bluetooth.
Approximate purchase date: Still pending confirmation
Budget Range: 5-7k
Usage Frequency: Primarily gaming
Are you purchasing a monitor? No, currently own a 2 144hz unit with plans to acquire additional models
Do you require an operating system? Yes
Preferred sources for components: scorp tech (Australian-based), prefer local pickup over shipping and theft concerns
Location: City, State/Region, Country: Australia – Sydney
Preferred component types: by brand or specification – not a strong preference
Overclocking: not desired
SLI or Crossfire: unclear understanding of these technologies
Monitor resolution: 1920x1080, considering a wider display later is uncertain
Additional notes: I need a device capable of handling multiple game instances simultaneously (e.g., playing Dota 2 alongside Morthau)
This selection is somewhat arbitrary
I require performance that supports running several game sessions at once.
For example, playing Dota 2 while also streaming Morthau
(Just a random choice)
I hope it can handle 4K games on demand and operate smoothly without graphical issues or lag with less demanding applications.
Most importantly, why are you upgrading? I already have a system that’s been heavily used over the past 1-2 years. I planned to pass it on to a friend after cleaning it up.
I intended to use it occasionally for work, but anything is acceptable given the moderate data usage.
Yes, the Wi-Fi card was chosen because the motherboard didn’t come with one initially; however, I seem to have selected a unit with a dongle, which I’m not too attached to, but will continue using it as a backup. (In rare instances, I might use it as an Ethernet alternative.)
The GPU I chose was a 4080 Super, which was the only sensible option at the time of assembly.
The motherboard is pricier due to the desire for additional M.2 slots
Storage budget: $500 allocated for M.2 drives; I’ll purchase one immediately.
Any part recommendations would be appreciated.
