I own a four-bedroom, 2,200 sqft house with an outdated Orbi. I’m thinking about switching to a Wi-Fi 6E router and want something that can handle a PiPo. My budget is around $200 to $400. Thanks!

Most routers can work with piHole by simply informing them to use it as your DNS. Finding a Raspberry Pi for this purpose might be tricky unless you already own one.

I already have the pihole configuration using my current router, and I'm searching for 6E options since there are many available.

I'm currently enhancing my network configuration. I began with piHole and moved to pfSense using the pfBlockerNG extension. For this path, these products should fit within your budget router selection: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B7JLWCML/ Access Point: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09XM74VQL I have placed the access point in my home, covering 2500 sq ft with a single unit centered on the basement ceiling. For the router, I'm running pfSense alongside pfBlockerNG, though you could equally set up a Proxmox VM and host both pfSense and PiHole on the same device. You likely already have piHole running on a Raspberry Pi, so most routers should support it. If you installed one for a friend, the installation was straightforward and the setup felt smooth. It works well with piHole and offers mesh extension for quick deployment. The only option I'd skip is a Google/Nest Wi-Fi model; it performs great but lacks proper DHCP management, which removes some PiHole features and customization capabilities.

I set up the Wi-Fi as an access point for my parents' home behind a pfSense SG-1100. DHCP is managed by pfSense, though I suspect it's running in bridge mode which isn't ideal here. You don't necessarily need Pihole for DHCP; I used it mainly for DNS and let Google Wi-Fi handle the connection. However, OP, avoid going through pfSense unless you're comfortable with what you're doing—it's powerful but not suitable for everyone.
