I've chosen to replace my old desktop with a Ryzen processor. I'm aiming for something reasonable without breaking the bank, yet capable of handling daily tasks smoothly. I spotted the R5 1600 on Amazon for just $104—it seemed like a great offer, but now I'm reconsidering. I'm still waiting on the new motherboard, so I'm thinking about swapping in the 3600 if it makes sense. It would cost an extra $70 or so and might require a BIOS flash unless I upgrade my RAM. My current setup includes the fastest RAM compatible with DDR4 3200MHz and a WD Black M.2 SSD. Will these components alone provide enough performance to keep things responsive, even with a less powerful CPU? Should I go ahead and replace everything and opt for an 8-core Ryzen 7 instead? Let me know your thoughts!

Next, 3600. What options do you have regarding the GPU? If you aren’t really utilizing it at 3600 and the GPU becomes the limiting factor, you won’t notice any gains.
Currently using the GTX 970. Planning an upgrade later, but not doing it right away.
Currently, I’m leaning toward the R5 3600 as my top pick. The only reason I haven’t swapped my 1700 is because its overclocked version matches it closely on single-core tests and dominates in multi-core scenarios. Alternatively, I’d choose the R5 3600 if I need to stay within a budget.
