Please share your budget details. I’m checking US prices for the C80 at $50 on Amazon, but it doesn’t appear to be a widely available North American product. Is your budget around US$50 per equivalent? And where are you located in the world? Since recommendations may vary by region, let me know your location.
My finances are roughly $50, and I'm in Bulgaria, which means things feel a bit different there...
You’ll likely struggle to locate quality options within a $50 price range that match these performance needs. My worry is about why your ISP offers 1Gbps but only achieves 800Mbps—could this measurement be done over a standard Ethernet connection? If so, you should demand accountability for not meeting the promised speeds. Review your agreement to confirm their stated capabilities. Even if you manage to secure a full 1Gbps connection, the limitations of the ISP device will still restrict what devices can run behind it. Contact the provider to inquire about upgrades; they may need to replace your equipment to support those speeds. If they agree, consider adding a wireless access point so the ISP can negotiate higher throughput and the wireless side handles routing independently.
The contract states a maximum speed of 950mbps, while typical performance is about 750mbps, which aligns with reality. My Speedtest results show downloads between 700-800 Mbps and uploads around 950 Mbps. If a higher-end option exists, I’m open to considering it.
The device you're using operates within the speed range of the C80. Could you share the model number of your current ISP unit and the type of router you're employing?
It mentions a Fiber Optical Media Converter, which they supply themselves. My current router costs around 20 dollars and isn’t linked to a gigabit connection; until now I had a very poor internet service, so I didn’t need much more. It lists a speed of 300 Mbps, but I only see 30-40 Mbps on my phone. The network is actually 100 Mbps. Thanks for your assistance—I’ll consider the C80 if there aren’t better options in this price range. The AX20 has a quad-core processor, but will it really improve my speeds?
Is that 300Mbps on WiFi? It seems like a device from the earlier WiFi-4 era. I’m guessing it’s tied to an older router, which makes sense for a WiFi-4 model. If you don’t want restrictions on your Ethernet connection, make sure it supports at least Cat5e or higher. If it only has one RJ45 port, then yes—you’ll need your own router. But if it has several ports, it might be a fiber gateway (like ONT, switch, etc.) and you could connect your laptop directly to an unused port for full gigabit performance.
It is much older router. The Media converter is only single port, that is supposed to go into the router, but as my current router is really bad I am using this port to my PC directly, and im using the old 100mbps internet as wifi, until the new router, that i will order now arrives. What is your opinion about the TP LINK AX20?
It should perform better on Ethernet (around 950Mbps maximum) compared to WiFi, though not much faster. WiFi remains slower even with AX-to-AX connections. I recommend checking the article about challenges in reaching over 1Gbps via WiFi.
