Hello everyone, welcome! I'm starting this new gaming PC build for purely gaming purposes at 1080p and 144Hz. While playing games, I listen to music or chat on Discord, or sometimes just browse the web when I need a break. Over the past week, I've been thinking about what CPU to choose. My previous setup had an i5 4670 3.4GHz with GTX1660 Super, and during gameplay it would hit near full capacity. If I switch tabs or join Discord, loading things would take forever. That's why I'm worried about jumping straight into the i7 9700K + MSI RX 6600 XT Super OC 8GB RAM. That could repeat the same issue.
Right now, AMD CPUs look promising—they offer better stability and lower power consumption compared to Intel, and they're more affordable. My main question is: should I go with the i7 9700K or save some cash and pick an AMD Ryzen? If I choose AMD, which one should I go for? The 9-3900X might be too much, but between the 7,800X and 7,370X options, it's worth considering the extra $100 for a better performance gap. Also, will there be any bottlenecks?
As for the rest of the build: Case - ATX Kolink Nimbus RGB Black Tempered Glass, CPU Cooler - Corsair Hydro H100x, Motherboard - MSI MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK, GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER VENTUS GP OC 8GB, RAM - Team Group 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz, HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm 64MB SATA III, SSD - Crucial P1 1TB 3D M.2 NVMe 2280 SPU, Cooler Master CX-750W 80+ Bronze.
Consider pairing a Ryzen 3600 with a 5700/XT or hold off until the 4600 and its successor arrives soon. Keep in mind that GPU performance matters more than CPU when gaming. Opt for the stock cooler if you choose AMD, and aim for a 3600 MHz CL16 RAM setup for the Ryzen.
I don't have specific details about upcoming releases, but for now, the Ryzen 7000 series is expected to launch in early 2024. If you're considering the 7T3800X, it's worth checking official announcements as it may be positioned as a future alternative.
the current 9700k is sufficient, but it doesn’t make sense to spend more than 3700x. a 3600 or 3600x would be better value. it’s not that costly, offers solid performance, and will hold up well. you might wait for the 4k AMD processors to arrive.
Sure, I'll go with a 3700x. It's sufficient. I'm not sure about a 3800x either; the 3700x includes the Wraith Prism stock cooler, which is decent. You should definitely use it.
