Comparing the two options, the X670E Steel Legend is more budget-friendly and fits your USB needs. The ASUS TUF offers higher-end specs but at a higher cost. For your future loop, the Kyrosheet CPU setup works well with either board. The X670E is a solid choice now, especially if you plan to upgrade later.

I wouldn't purchase an open box board to protect my life. Choose either the ASUS or a fresh Steel Legend.

Prefer X670 above all else. Used to have Z/X series boards too. The steel quality from micro center is quite good, especially at that price point—it feels like a bargain. Do you think there are any specific features or checks I should pay attention to on these boards? They come with a 90-day warranty from micro center. Concerned about Asus support, it took me over a month to get an RMA after my X570 stopped working suddenly.

I really enjoy MC, but their open boxes have caused problems for me. The issue is that nobody inspects them before you buy. If you send back a motherboard and claim you don<|pad|>, they’ll just open it. Or if you tried it and it didn’t work, say you don’t want it, and they’ll open it again. It’s frustrating knowing you’re getting something that was returned without being checked.

I wouldn't buy X670 again without a specific use case for it, the B650 options make so much more sense for like 90% of people. You're not giving up any performance or overclocking potential and just gaining an extra chipset that in my experience, can just end up with headaches and increased boot times. They try to make you believe you need X670 to have the best performance but its simply not true, I'm glad I see through that. We want to try to help others see that too.

However, it's important to be completely honest—B650 boards are really solid for AM5. The AORUS Elite AX and Pro AX can manage any CPU that's a bit more powerful. If you're looking to cut costs or already have the better options secured, that's worth mentioning.

I get the point but from a design perspective I haven't found any B650 models except Amazon. I'm just looking to get a new one and avoid Asus. I originally got a B650 Strix but didn't assemble it until I collected all the necessary components—cooling fittings, tubing, and blocks—within more than 30 days. It ended up being a total loss at the store, so I had to wait two months for an RMA and received a refurbished unit. That didn't go well since I paid for a new one, and when I bought an Asus TUF B650 because my X570 failed after cleaning, the RAM slot got stuck. After the RMA, I got a new one in stock and it arrived within about a week. Not great, but at least I know what's happening with Asus these days. I've never used a Gigabyte board before. My first build was Intel with EVGA. The X570 is now B650, Asus TUF, but the RAM slot was locked because I installed it incorrectly. Just wanted to match my GPU even though it was waterproof.
