Currently I have a setup with an Xeon e3 1231-v3 from ASUS B85M-G, USB 3.1, 16GB RAM (8GB from my brother's old PC), a Sapphire R9 390 8GB SSD, and an HDD. I’ve bought compressed air and thermal paste to clean the CPU, but it seems upgrading might be better since my gaming FPS is low. My friend used a Ryzen 5 3600 and said it performs much better. The Xeon is running hot during games (around 70-75°C). I’m looking for a CPU recommendation. I mainly play games but also need something capable for SolidWorks and other demanding tasks. I haven’t been following PC parts lately but heard good things about new AMD CPUs. I want to stay under €350, not including accessories. Should I wait for the Zen 3? It was supposed to be released in October, but I’m not sure if there’ll be much change.

That's acceptable, the temperatures are fine. If you can, wait and assess what it provides before making a move.

I overlooked running a x264 stress test on the CPU earlier. When I returned to the PC around 50% through loop 4, it was generating a lot of artifacts and the temperature reached 95°C. Here are the results: Loop 1 – 2121 frames, 2.93 fps, 35,913.33 kb/s Loop 2 – same as above Loop 3 – 2121 frames, 2.92 fps, 35,913.33 kb/s Loop 4 – 2121 frames, 2.90 fps, 35,913.33 kb/s Adding the file just before shutting it down. If you consider purchasing a new CPU now, what suggestions would you give? video-1600275686.mp4

You might consider swapping the thermal paste, reinstalling the cooler, and cleaning the assembly. However, if your usual operating temperatures are acceptable, you probably don’t need to stress about the stress test outcomes.

Temperatures during heavy gaming are normal, so you can simply wait and see what Zen 3 provides.
