Metro lineup... the initial two follow a straight path, filmed inside confined areas. The third (Metro Exodus) offers a more open experience, mixing several maps with objectives that unfold in a somewhat unpredictable sequence—save points are available at any time for later play. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and similar titles are single-player shooters with some missions to navigate through, while the Dishonored series provides engaging challenges. The Sniper Elite games are straightforward and enjoyable, with the first being a bit dated but the later entries solid. Dishonored’s steampunk vibe is appealing, and Dead Space delivers chilling horror with jump scares. Oh, I experienced two jumps in a tunnel—probably a monster would appear next to scare me... but I appreciate the impressive sound design in the second game. For platformers, try Celeste, Cave Story+, Giana Sisters, Ori and the Blind Forest, Will of Whisps, or other similar titles. Hotline Miami delivers rapid-fire levels with frequent deaths and restarts. Hardspace Shipbreaker offers a surprisingly calming pace, involving space ship dismantling and laser work. Dredge can also provide a soothing experience, like fishing with a boat.
KF3 could be fun, but I'll have to try it myself. I enjoyed the 1/2 version too. It's surprising how challenging Doom isn't supposed to be—though I didn’t realize how tough it was at first. I wasn’t expecting it to be that difficult, especially since I usually like fast-paced shooters. I actually enjoy 40k games, so that’s a plus. I’ll look into these titles later. Thanks for the suggestions!
Other engaging FPS concepts focusing on deep single-player play... Consider Wolfenstein The New Order and its expansion, Wolfenstein The New Colossus Metro 2033, Last Light, and Exodus (the first two are straightforward, concise, and regularly drop for unbelievably low prices). Exodus offers a semi-open world feel, though it’s a bit rougher, but still enjoyable. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titles provide a distinct atmosphere compared to most games here, staying far from typical horror themes. You’ll need mods to access them, but the experience feels unlike anything else—similar to Black Mesa if you haven’t played Half-Life 1 or just want to relive it. Gunslinger is concise yet surprisingly underrated, delivering an arcade-style shooter with memorable quick-draw boss encounters.
In reality, Destiny 2 is quite solid, and while you can play it for free, there are benefits to investing time.
Metro completely overlooked those things. I’ll look into Stalker... I recall something about it but don’t remember clearly. It seems like something I actually wanted but missed the chance to buy. Sniper Elite, haha—actually own 1/2/3/4, I think. Those were fun games. The last one was tougher; it stopped being a straight line story. My PC crashed then, and I never got back in with my new machine. Tried this one out—it wasn’t my favorite, Deadspace. OHHHH, I’d rather not play that myself, but my daughter would enjoy watching me. My son might run off, hehe. (Guess you can tell who likes what.) P.S., I hate messing with toys on the floor. He took my Steam Deck. Not a fan of platformers—I just struggle. I usually prefer 360 no scope over jumping onto the right platform. Shipbreaker... sounds cool... Dredge—no, you can’t unwind that way. It’s not an option when you’re at home. Now I understand why dads like fishing. Kids really take away your chance to relax.
Sure, I'll review those. I think others talked about a few too. Call of Juarez was really enjoyable. Those types of games explain why I'm sharing this here. You might easily overlook great titles if you only focus on the best ones. This is definitely one of my top picks.
When they're not accurate right away, they become correct later. I frequently spot those older CODs for less than $10 to $15.
It seems like you're referring to a game where you can play for free up to level 20, after which it costs around $70 to keep going, and you were just enjoying the experience without wanting to pay at first. At the same time, you were spending time exploring maps and other features.
Is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a good buy right now? It’s currently on sale 50% off in Battle.net, and I’m okay with paying if the single-player experience meets my expectations. The multiplayer is lively and fast-paced, offering a solid shooter vibe. Reviews are mixed, but it seems to deliver fun gameplay. Worth it? Probably.
