Hey there! I'm just starting out with simulator games, and the first thing that came to mind was a flight simulator. I'm open to trying any popular ones—free options are great, but I'm also okay with paid games as long as they're under 15 dollars. I don’t have much experience, so no questions needed! Also, do I need a joystick for these games?

I recommend Warthunder since it's available for free on Steam. You won't need a joystick, though I'd suggest one or a compatible Xbox controller, because using just a keyboard and mouse is challenging during intense combat situations.

FlightSimX isn't a flight simulator. These tools aim for high realism, but from what I've seen, War Thunder falls short in that regard.

Consider testing Microsoft Flight and/or Flight Simulator X (FSX). Both are simulators, but FSX offers more realistic features while Microsoft Flight has a more arcadey feel. A joystick is suggested for either, though keyboard and mouse work too—just not as smooth. Keep in mind they accurately mimic many aspects like gear changes, de-icing, weight distribution, and weather conditions.

It's a great game, FSX is affordable and you don't need a joystick—just grab one for around £200.

I need to mention this... your GIF is really great, I've been watching it for about five minutes now, haha!

Warthunder is straightforward to master, using your mouse for aiming and keyboard controls for speed and wing adjustments. To reload, adjust space for bombs, and fire rockets—each function feels intuitive. The guide is solid, and I’m comfortable with the controls. Just note they ask about your country; if you’re Russian or American, it’s ideal. Be aware the game demands high performance, so your MacBook may struggle to run it smoothly.

You probably didn't play the realistic missions, they're even more lifelike than the regular mode.
