Looking for a durable 1GB Ethernet cable under $25?
I've never paid over $1 per cable before. Walmart often sells bundled Ethernet cables like Cat5e and Cat6, 23M (75ft) for $17.
Can you share photos? It's interesting if it is, or else there might be something in your home damaging the wires. Only a few things can really harm network cables: strong UV light (like prolonged direct sunlight), extreme temperatures, salt air, and physical damage. The tab that secures the plug to the port is likely the weakest part—it can come off easily and may be bent during installation.
They tend to snap when you pull them around other wires, but usually stay intact unless you shake the cable. As long as you don’t jiggle them, they’re still functional, though they might loosen over time based on slack and tension. I’ve only seen a few breakages—one Belkin and another with my Xbox 360, likely from accidental pressure. Cheap cables usually just have the tabs that fail more easily because of frequent handling; otherwise they should hold up better.
