The holidays are approaching and I'm thinking about a CPU upgrade. My system is pretty underpowered right now, especially with tasks like Fusion 360 and C.A.D. work in Inscape. The monitor runs at 1080p at 60fps, graphics are smooth thanks to the GTX 1650, and my motherboard is the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC. I'm stuck between a trash CPU from Intel's Core i3-9100F and something better within the $150 to $250 range. Need more info?
Fusion360 and Inkscape require minimal power. A mid-range i5 should suffice. Your RAM usage isn’t a concern. Most parametric designs work well with 16 GB. Do you have any simulation or rendering tasks?
Unless you prefer second-hand, the top choice for a CPU seems to be a 9600k (provided you're in the US). If you're open to used options, a 9700k should fit your budget easily. Don't forget to prioritize sufficient RAM as well. Updated December 10, 2020 by AndrewZScorpion Grammar
