I think I haven't witnessed this before, especially at the top end of hardware. Usually I invest heavily in a motherboard and then buy a couple of budget CPUs to install on it. As the board gets older and its premium CPUs drop in price, the board can last around ten years before becoming noticeably slow. I don’t often see many old AMD systems lasting that long, but I do frequently find dual 1366 platforms still in operation.
Choosing a premium motherboard paired with budget CPUs is the most economical choice. As time passes, top-tier CPUs for your setup will also become more affordable, allowing you to get a powerful machine at a lower cost. If you can upgrade both the board and CPU on the same socket, it’s essentially just a display of status—lol.
I believe there are additional aspects to think about. Sometimes people purchase a high-end 100 or 200 series LGA 1151 motherboard with the goal of upgrading the CPU later. However, after 2-4 years, the used prices for 6th and 7th generation i7s remain very high, and even some 6th and 7th generation i5 models are considered expensive.
