The 7700k is the top choice for official support, while the 9900K might run if you tweak the hardware (not advised). A full CPU and motherboard upgrade seems more reliable than trying to repurpose the existing board.

These boards cost around $50, while the 5600(x) range is between $80 to $100 or the 3600(x) sits in the $50 to $60 area. They manage to beat the 9900k price without breaking the bank.
