I’m not sure about the exact battery performance of those operating systems, but generally, newer versions tend to optimize power more efficiently. XP usually lags behind, while later versions like 7, 8.1, and 10 are often better at conserving battery. Your experience with 7 on laptops might reflect that trend.
I believe 10 offers the best optimization, though power settings and other factors matter too. Would you consider a lightweight Linux distribution? One that runs entirely in RAM, allowing you to significantly reduce HDD usage. However, this might not suit your needs well, so I wouldn't strongly recommend it.
I've been checking it out with Popcorn Time while streaming films at the same quality.
I attempted this about 10 months ago on my older laptop (Latitude E6500, around 2.5 cores, 2-3GB RAM). It performed very slowly. I also tried the Win 8 preview on the same machine years earlier—it worked fine, but eventually I switched back to Windows 7. Previously, I used only XP, then experimented with dual-booting between XP and 7 for a while. Now I have a Precision M4400 and an Ultrabook (Latitude E4300), both equipped with SSDs.
