If you're willing to learn the CLI syntax then I say go for it. Just one thing to be aware of is they are generally much louder than something like a Ubiquiti switch but if you aren't putting it anywhere close to people then it's nothing to worry about. I think they can rev up to about 55-60dBa worst case.

You're taking good precautions. Storing it in a basement room will help protect it from noise.

I suggest proceeding right away. You'll also need a console cable, which usually costs around five dollars or less, and a USB adapter cable for the console is really useful.
