Hey there, I see you're trying to find a compact motherboard for your setup. You're looking for something suitable with an i7 6700k and GTX 960, but you're dealing with an older case that's hard to sell. You mentioned wanting a new board at the lowest price without compromising on quality. The naming from earlier generations is tricky, so it’s making it tough to decide. Let me know if you need more guidance!

You can try new options, but they often lack affordable pricing since production has stopped. Micro ATX B150 and B250 boards are readily available, and I’ve purchased many of them without issues. I’ve gotten them from eBay as well. I also bought a couple Z170 boards in the past, and there were no complaints about those either.

I thought the odds of success were low and am fine with a used unit. Will these fit this CPU? Are there no Intel or AMD socket options like in the latest models?

I wouldn't put money into a platform lacking stable W11 support and possibly ending in 2025. Unless Linux is available. Old motherboards are expensive. It might be better to opt for AM4 or something similar if the RAM fits. A used or even older model could work well and give you a fresh start.

There are AMD and Intel connectors. B200 and B250 are Intel components built for Intel 1151 socket.

B150, B250, Z170 etc. all belong to Intel chipsets and use the LGA 1151 v1 socket, ensuring compatibility with a 6700K. Avoid motherboards featuring the LGA 1151 v2 socket, such as B360, Z370, and H310—they will fit the CPU mechanically but differ in wiring, preventing proper startup.

Uncertain about your question regarding AMD. Your Intel processor requires its specific Intel socket and chipset, which means it won't work with an AMD system. Additionally, Intel demands a precise chipset and might not function even if the socket matches. Check the CPU compatibility chart for the motherboard—Intel often updates compatibility every two generations, regardless of socket name (AMD tends to handle this better).

I get what you're saying, but I'm not interested in switching systems. I already have a fully assembled setup. What I need is to relocate it into a more compact enclosure. Maybe a smaller form factor case could work while still accommodating a full ATX board. That might also save some money, though I haven't found anything suitable yet. The one you mentioned for a smaller board is here: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aerocool-...YUQAvD_BwE

Thanks for the update. I mixed up the socket and the chipset, which made things confusing. I was hoping to find a name to look up on Ebay. Scanning each board individually with PCPP isn’t really exciting.

I wouldn't opt for an inexpensive case lacking cooling—it's just e-waste. What RAM do you have available? If I were you, I'd explore these choices:
- Investigate current prices for new components and decide accordingly. You might find a newer CPU/processor set is cheaper than an older one.
- Wait before purchasing anything. If you require Windows, note that the CPU could become obsolete after 2025.
- Think about selling what you own. Those $50 you might earn are more valuable if you don't need to upgrade immediately. This also helps the environment by preventing unnecessary purchases.
I currently have a 6100 series dual-core processor running W11, but Microsoft could stop updates anytime. If it fails, the CPU would be discarded too. I also own a 6700 (non-K) on W10—suitable for basic tasks like browsing, YouTube, or Office, but not worth investing in.
