Games typically don't need more than four cores, and this should stay the case for a long time. FX CPUs offer good value but aren't great for gaming. They suit those who don't need a high-end processor—like me—and aren't concerned about virtual machines or video editing needing multiple cores.
I don't hold any resentment toward AMD; my issue is with the FX CPU I had (FX 8350). It limited my GPU performance, which I've heard people say should be upgraded. But for me, it's not about matching the GPU's speed—it's about having enough power at normal speeds to keep up. Not everyone is comfortable with CPU overclocking or dealing with the hassle, like I am. I’m familiar with overclocking, but I’d need a superior cooler to make it work smoothly. So, if you're looking for a multi-core CPU, an i7 would be the better choice.
