Hi everyone, I'm seeking a cost-effective mini-switch to extend my physical cable into my PC and add a Wi-Fi booster. After negotiating with my dad, I now have a wired Ethernet line to my second-floor room that performs well with minimal latency. However, non-wired devices still struggle, especially since my mom has been working more on the upper floor lately. She’s noticed the poor connection there and recently brought in a Wi-Fi booster disk—though it works wirelessly. Unfortunately, the signal is weak across the whole house, and it disrupts other devices trying to connect. I’m considering a mini switch or similar device to manage the existing Cat5 cable for a wired link in my room, so I can use the booster without losing my current connection. Adding extra ports would be helpful for future gaming sessions. My budget is around £30-45 and I’m looking for something available in the UK. Please confirm if any details need adjusting before I post. Thanks! Alister.

Do you have a router? It’s quite simple to set it up with them, and possibly investing in a dedicated access point could be beneficial.

Consider getting a router and an access point for long-term use. For immediate needs, any small switch from a trusted brand will suffice—Netgear is a solid option despite mixed opinions on their routers, and TP-Link could be even more affordable. Since you're not based in the UK, I don’t know local retailers, but sharing a link to a store you prefer would help find better alternatives.

Hello, I’ll review both your input and Mads’ suggestion. The concept of a full access point seems promising, though it’s challenging to secure a parent appeal as well.
