I was really excited about its release, but later realized it was a costly investment, so I chose to skip it unless it becomes free-to-play.

SC seems to be a single purchase at the moment, though the pledges suggest otherwise. Not all pledges include Arena Commander access, which is the active module but can be bought for $5. I've been using it with several players in The Art of Warfare (http://www.taw.net) who are planning a racing event soon.
