Hello. I recently installed a Samsung SSD with RAPID mode and Windows 8.1 Pro on it. I also have a traditional hard drive containing all my files. The boot process was smooth until I connected my external hard drives to scan for viruses. After cleaning up the infections, I moved the drives away from the PC, but now accessing the Windows login takes longer than usual. Do you think this is related to the new SSD setup? Are there any fixes or suggestions?

Confirm the boot sequence is correct. The system might prioritize the removed device before loading your main SSD. Review the boot priority settings in BIOS/EFI first.

All settings are properly arranged. No modifications were made to the BIOS. However, there seems to be an issue affecting the transition between the Windows logo and the login screen. The overall process appears unchanged, but the timing feels off.

Reviewed the Windows Event Viewer and system logs. It appears the system was automatically set up to use the laptop drive, and after removal it paused until a timeout occurred. Superfetch and Readyboost performed similar actions previously with removal drives during backups.

I looked into SuperFetch settings and found it turned off. I’ve switched it back on. As for ReadyBoost, I’m not familiar with it.

readyboost was introduced in Windows 7 and appears only after upgrading. On a fresh 8.1 setup it may not be present. The best way to check is via the Event Log—review entries in Windows Logs > System to identify issues or delays.
