Long startup with AMD Ryzen 5 7600 and 16 GB DDR5 5200 memory
Hello everyone, I’m excited to share that I finally assembled my first PC since 2014. Here are the details of my build:
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B650M Mortar WiFi AM5 mATX
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 Fury Beast
- RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) at 5200MHz CL36 DDR5 EXPO
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti with 2 NVMe SSDs
- Storage: Samsung 980 PRO NVMe M.2 1TB, Corsair RM850 PCIe 4.0 SSD, 850W 80 PLUS Gold fully modular ATX PSU
I encountered several boot-related problems. The startup time is slow—around 35 to 45 seconds. During the first 30 seconds, Windows 10 Pro loads very slowly and becomes unresponsive. After that, it boots quickly and smoothly. Right-clicking the desktop takes about 5 to 7 seconds to open the menu. The taskbar freezes for roughly 10 seconds initially. Sometimes the login screen glitches after logging in, requiring a refresh of the desktop to fix the issue.
These issues are new to me; I haven’t seen anything like this on a Windows machine before. Since I’m an older user, I’m confident there have been recent updates or changes since 2014. I tried various EXPO and XMP profiles, enabled/disabled memory context restore, used different TeamGroup RAM configurations, but none resolved the problems. I also reinstalled Windows.
Thanks for your time and support!
I noticed various EXPO/XMP configurations you attempted, but when using EXPO/XMP on my system it automatically applied the default settings that appeared after enabling them. That resolved the issue and improved performance significantly. I upgraded from a Ryzen 7 3800X to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and installed four 8GB modules of Crucial 4000 during the holiday. I recommend resetting the BIOS back to its original defaults and then testing EXPO/XMP with the default settings to verify success. Take care and good luck. I omitted that my boot times decreased from 15–20 seconds to just 3 seconds. Edited March 12, 2024 by kb5zue for more details.
