Hi, I just completed assembling a new PC and noticed unusually high CPU idle temperatures. My 13700K is cooled by a Corsair H100i Elite, a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. When I boot into BIOS, the idle temps sit around 40°C, but they spike to over 80°C in Windows. The CPU and cooler are both running at stock speeds. Earlier, during assembly, my idle temps ranged from the mid-40s to mid-60s, and gaming pushed it up to 100°C. I ran Cinebench and saw the CPU hit 100°C instantly, while gaming kept it between 60-70°C. I thought the high idle temps were due to poor thermal paste, so I reapplied it—this only made things worse. I even re-applied it again and still faced the same issue. I’m unsure what’s causing this and how to fix it. Anyone have insights or solutions?

Yes, there is a plastic film on the plate of the AIO that might still be present.

I hope it was that simple, I initially verified this before reapplying the thermal compound the first time.

Have you verified how the fans are working? Are they all properly linked to the iCUE Commander CORE included with the AIO? Do you have the software ready to track their performance?

Everyone appears to be functioning well, though the noise level is a bit elevated. I'm tracking it using ICUE. I recently discovered something unusual—it looks like the temperature remains around 45 to 50 degrees during idle most of the time, which is still a bit elevated but not extreme. However, when downloading a game, the temperature rises sharply and stays high until the download completes. A few of my CPU cores drop below 30% utilization, but that shouldn't be the cause of this ongoing heat. In comparison, after starting Cyberpunk, the temperatures only reach 65 degrees.

It seems the second attempt is less effective. Did you try using Arctic Silver? Also, were the fans connected via the CPU_FAN so they could be managed through the BIOS?
