Long latency during online play.
Hi there, I’m looking for ways to lower my online game ping. My connection is solid at around 150Mbps download and upload speeds. About a month ago my ping was normal at 20, but now it’s often over 100. It’s really bothering me and I don’t know the cause. I’ve tried updating Windows, disabling antivirus, refreshing drivers, closing apps, and restarting the computer. If anyone has tips or knows what might be going on, that would help a lot. Also, I’ve heard some issues with Windows Hello not working after a recent update—any advice there? Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Moved to Networking *** Which games? Did you adjust any options in the games or launchers? Ping shows your connection distance to the server. If it’s increasing significantly, there are typical causes. First, another person might be using your network for high-priority activities like streaming—possibly even someone nearby. Second, you could be being directed to a different game service than the one you normally use. Changing regions might trigger a new route. Or if it’s only in one game, the issue might stem from the server side.
I entered the command prompt and received approximate round-trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 42ms, Average = 21ms. This is significantly faster than in the game. I'm currently playing Rocket League and War Thunder, both operating within the 90-115 ping range.
I'm playing Rocket League and War Thunder. I've kept only the video settings unchanged. My school uses a 5GHz Wi-Fi network (no Ethernet available). It has its own servers, which explains the low ping in speed tests. What I don't understand is that it used to function perfectly but now it's not working well. It feels like an update changed something in my system. Thanks for your feedback!
