I'm having trouble locating the DNS settings on my family's TC8717T. The closest info I have is about Dynamic DNS using dYN, but I can't afford to pay for it. My goal is to restrict access to inappropriate sites, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

5 SHARING CONTENT DMS-CTC-20140127-0004 v1.0 5.2 The UPnP AV Media Server Introduction Your Gateway includes a DLNA Certified UPnP AV media server. This guide explains how to operate and set it up:

UPnP AV is designed for easy media sharing on your local network. It uses DLNA standards to ensure compatibility between devices. A DLNA certified device like the Gateway integrates smoothly with other certified equipment. When you search for a file, the Gateway stores metadata (title, artist, etc.) in a database and retrieves it quickly.

UPnP AV components:

- **UPnP AV server** – Connected to your media files and makes them available on the network.
- **UPnP AV client** – Software or hardware that plays or displays media from the server.

Accessing media via UPnP AV:

- On Windows 7, the system supports UPnP AV natively. It detects the server and makes files playable through Windows Media Player.
- Steps: Open Start → Computer → Explorer → Network → Enable network discovery and file sharing if needed.

The parent control only supports HTTP, while most sites use HTTPS. You need to adjust your DNS settings to allow HTTPS for secure access.

The process of updating your DNS settings can help prevent access to explicit content by filtering traffic. There are specialized DNS services designed to block adult websites, and many routers offer built-in parental controls that cover a wide range of sites. Using these features ensures consistent protection across all browsing activities.

This approach isn't just about parental controls; it's a broader method to manage network access. You can block unwanted websites on computers within the network, add specific sites or keywords to restrictions, and use SSL-secured URLs without breaking access. The system also permits traffic from trusted devices while enforcing these safeguards.
