Hello everyone. I’m reaching out for some guidance on locating a CPU. My boss, who’s a close friend, recently lost his dad. His father was very tech-savvy and accumulated many gadgets he didn’t use much. He had a computer he intended to convert into an old case but never finished it. Since my boss doesn’t need it, he’s offering me the parts at discounted prices. All the components I want to reuse are brand new, except for the processor. He has a G4560 motherboard. I’m planning to build a system for controlling lighting and video equipment at events like weddings and school dances. I’m using software such as GrandMA, Onyx, and Resolume. My goal is to fit an i7 7700K into this setup. I’ve heard that a 6700K is about the same power level. I’m considering both options but feel it would be cheaper to upgrade his gaming RX 8700 to a 9700K instead. I wish my 8700 could have worked with this board. I also read that the i5 models from this generation offer good value. I’m leaning toward the i5 but prefer the higher-end 7700K. I’m open to purchasing a used CPU if I can find a reliable source, especially since I’m in the BC interior of Canada. Any suggestions on where to buy a quality used CPU at a fair price or a new one at a lower cost would be greatly appreciated.
