The issue might stem from slow computers and unstable Wi-Fi, especially on 2.4 GHz. Try linking the "server" computer to Ethernet. To locate the correct Ethernet cable, plug a device into the desired port and connect cables sequentially to a switch or router powered on. If the port indicator lights up, you’ve identified a connected cable and can verify if the device recognizes it.

None of this relates to Ethernet connections. The router is suspended from the ceiling in the center of the hallway. This setup isn't ideal since there are likely at least 50 cables spanning across multiple rooms. The outlets in each room should be clearly labeled, but it seems the opposite is happening. I checked online and found a similar tester here: https://www.computercablestore.com/gigab...id=1&pid=9, but it probably requires two people or a lot of movement. We’d still need to install a large switch or router.

You could also try a cable finder connected on one end and a pen-like device that emits a beep when near the cable linked to the other device.

Fascinating. I've never encountered anything like this before.
