I'm searching for some solid local multiplayer titles, especially affordable options.
My friends are coming over soon, with one bringing his PS4 and I have my controller for PC.
We're looking for two-player games that aren't too hard—just relaxed and fun.
Brawlhalla is a game we all like, and I've been thinking about getting a copy of DBZ Budokai 3.
I already have a few installed, such as Black Ops (with Zombies) and Borderlands (though that's a bit demanding).
Cross-platform compatibility would be a nice bonus if it exists yet.

If switching off is an option, playing Lego Marvel (the only PS4 game I've tried) was a great experience.

I have one of the LEGO Marvel games, but I don't remember which one.
It looks good; I've added it to the list for now (I can only afford so much, so I'll have to pick and choose).
I might need to check it out—there are some gameplay videos I could watch to see if this is something we have.

It's a board game kind of adventure game, really enjoyable and reasonably affordable

Wow, this seems like a strange combination of games. The hex grid elements remind me of Civ, so I’m adding that to the view gameplay list. Usually, gameplays provide a brief overview of each title. Enjoying these suggestions so far, everyone!

Apart from that, there aren't many cross-platform games currently on sale. Fortnite and Duantless remain popular free options. You might also enjoy Gears of War 4, State of Decay 2 (which I suggest because I've played it on my PC with an Xbox friend), Rocket League, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2, Halo Wars Definitive Edition, Spacelords (free and often overlooked), Brawlhalla, and last but not least, Ultimate Chicken Horse. I paid $14.99 for it and haven't felt any regret, even though it's been on sale every other month.

You can also consider titles like Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Deep Rock Galactic, Enter The Gungeon, Forze Horizon 3 and 4, Forza 7, Hello Neighbor, Killer Instinct (which I think is free), and The Long Dark, as these are Xbox Play Anywhere games. However, you're unlikely to find them at significantly discounted prices right now.
