Local account or Microsoft account?
Local account or Microsoft account?
I’ve often questioned why individuals steer clear of signing into a Microsoft account and opting for workarounds. My investigation suggests privacy is the main factor, though other reasons might play a role. I’m curious if people prefer a Microsoft account over a local one, just from their perspective.
I find it frustrating having to log in with a password every time and then receive another code. It feels like they’re trying to push too many features and force updates, like a sales pitch from Microsoft. We just want to use the computer without installing unnecessary programs that slow it down or constantly ask for files in Outlook.
Microsoft is actually a much worse privacy offender compared to Linux. The main issue with the Linux privacy group is that they often excuse Google from responsibility, even though Google clearly performs worse in terms of privacy. They’ve been shown to sell user data for advertising purposes, work with questionable authorities, and their complaints about Microsoft seem more about hypothetical threats than real actions. It’s strange to see Linux users proudly logging into their YouTube accounts while believing Windows users are giving up privacy, when Google’s Terms of Service confirm it can track browsing activity even with a logged-in Gmail account. That’s just my daydream about the topic. No sources needed, just an opinion I had a few years back.
Linux and Google? The connection makes sense—why stick to Chrome when DuckDuckGo works better? Many Linux users prefer DuckDuckGo over Chrome, and some even use Tor with Firefox. Linux avoids signing into Microsoft and sidesteps the issues Microsoft updates create. These changes keep things running smoothly.
Many privacy-focused Linux users continue to rely on Google services.
Microsoft offers a solution here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint.../autologon They don't hinder your PC performance and you retain full access. Local and linked account experiences are the same.
