Loading games and checking the internet takes longer on Ubuntu.
I recently set up Ubuntu and am finding it quite frustrating. Whenever I attempt to download a game on Steam or simply browse the internet, the speed is extremely slow. My Steam downloads typically begin around 2 MB/s and then drop to just 500 KB/s. I've tried disabling IPV6, but it hasn't helped. Anyone have a better solution?
Confirming the issue is with the device rather than your internet connection.
Adjust your DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and observe any differences
It might be several factors at play. If you're connected via Wi-Fi, I'd verify whether using the built-in driver is appropriate. Tap the power/gear button in the upper right corner and choose system settings. Next, select software and updates, then go to the additional drivers section. This was necessary on my Acer laptop after installing Ubuntu 14.04. With Steam, you can pick the closest city for downloads. I noticed that switching from my nearest city to another location, even across a different country, actually boosted my download speed.
Are these the only extra drivers available, assuming my Wi-Fi adapter appears?
Occasionally it appears, like with mine, though not consistently. Visit the official Ubuntu website to determine if the problem relates to wireless connectivity.
