Liwintosh (Linux Windows Macintosh)
Hello! I understand I can locate my solution here. A quick overview: I work with visual design, front-end development, web and Android app creation, and I’m an avid gamer with strong tech knowledge. My system includes an Intel Core i5 4590K with 16GB RAM (8+8), a Corsair Vengeance Gigabyte G1 Gaming SSD, and a 4GB 960GTX 3TB drive (1TB + 2TB partition). The OS setup is Windows 10 Pro, 500GB random storage, and 200GB for Mac OS El Capitan. I use the Boot Options menu to switch between operating systems. I’m particularly fascinated by Linux—its interface and audio feedback impress me. I recently installed Ubuntu on a 64GB SanDisk USB drive but encountered an issue: during installation, part of the Linux setup appeared in the boot options even though the drive wasn’t connected. This is likely related to GRUB. My goal is to uninstall the conflicting software or bootloader and reinstall Ubuntu so that only the USB drive runs it, leaving my other drives unused. I’ve attached a diagram for reference.
This entry appears in the bios due to the EFI settings. It isn't stored on any of your disks and shouldn't create problems.
Hi, thank you for your question. When you disconnect the hard drives, will Ubuntu still appear in the boot options? It depends on whether the installation is necessary. If it's a required component, it should remain accessible. You can also hide it if needed. Regarding your settings, keeping them means your Ubuntu installation on the USB will be tied to your BIOS, but it shouldn't restrict access from other devices. So, you can run Ubuntu from your USB anywhere as long as the bootloader is properly configured.
It varies by board; some systems retain older OS versions and multiple installations, which you can repurpose for other devices.
