Confirm the need is 4GB or more; otherwise, simply use Rufus to install it

Generally, all Linux ISO images function consistently out of the box. To set up redundant storage on a USB drive, the distribution needs to offer that capability.

It sounds like you think Debian-based systems need quite a bit of memory—around 128 MB or more.
