Access Control Lists aren't limited to Cisco devices. You don’t need a router that specifically uses ACLs unless you're managing network traffic. It’s best to set up a router or firewall that handles internal internet traffic and routes it through the WAN connection you receive from the US.

Your aim is to understand the purpose of access rules in routers, especially how advanced models offer more flexibility.

We are setting up a LAN linked to a WAN. It only requires internet access for remote connections. I wasn't sure if the IT team would need to configure ACLs to restrict specific traffic or if we should allow everything in the LAN. The firewall I considered is https://www.zyxel.com/uk/en/products_ser...LL-ATP100/.

Only a basic setup should be necessary, though advanced options might matter depending on your specific needs. What bandwidth requirement are you aiming for?

It's primarily designed for remote access by support teams. Bandwidth requirements are modest. Assuming a Zyxel is too much is a bit excessive.

Essentially any router with NAT should suffice. Even budget home routers should work in this scenario. I'm not sure if your remote access service requires port forwards, but most routers handle that.

Alright, thanks for the feedback. This option looks more affordable.

I believe it relies on insight management services, which are charged monthly. Just a note—I’m not sure if this fits your needs, so I can’t confirm it would work. I might choose a Netgate box with PF-Sense and solid hardware instead.

I don’t want anything with monthly payments. I just need a router that works with a WAN using ACL rules.

You'd design various ACLs for network security. Examples include access control lists for routers, even basic consumer models can support them. For remote server access, you might consider hiring an IT consultant.
