Liquid Metal (Conductonaut) quantity for 8700k device
I plan to delide my 8700k next week. I’ve read and watched several tutorials but still need to confirm a few details:
How much liquid metal should be applied to the die and the inside of the IHS? Is one small drop on each sufficient for the 8700k? I want to ensure it covers all even showing streaks without puddles.
I know too much can be bad, and too little can be risky.
Who delidded the 8700k and how much liquid metal did you use?
Thanks.
Also, a quick question: if applied correctly, there’s no chance the liquid metal will slowly wash out from the CPU when installed vertically in my computer? Probably not, just to be sure.
Delidding completed successfully, with temperature drops ranging from 15°C to 21°C based on stress test type and core. I applied a minimal amount on the die and another on the inside of the IHS. It was quite straightforward, without any liquid pools, which was easier than anticipated. After some hesitation, it proved to be very manageable. The process took exactly three hours: preparation, CPU removal, delidding, cleaning silicone glue and thermal paste, applying LM, re-sealing with silicone rubber, curing, installing the computer, and finally setting up Dark Rock Pro 3 (the most challenging part overall).
