Karadjgne:
Closed loop coolers are almost completely silent. What stands out is the noisy Corsair fans with a range of 1800-2300 rpm. That's extremely fast and completely unnecessary. The standard nzxt 140mm fans on my x61 usually don't exceed 600rpm and are barely audible unless I push them to 900rpm during stress tests. The Noctua nf-f12 on my h55 runs nonstop at 450-550rpm all day.24/7. Air coolers aren't always quiet either—try the xigmatec ones or even the humble hyper212; crank its fan above 1100rpm and it becomes quite loud. Many opinions about loud liquid coolers are based mainly on Corsair products, or on others who only know Corsair.

The main real concern with clc's is the price. It's more expensive than a decent air cooler. Still, that cost pales in comparison to the price of a fully custom open loop.

What exactly was I saying? I asked him to swap out the stock fans for Corsair ML Pro fans, which perform much better in terms of static pressure, airflow, and silence.

Consider allocating $120 for a cooler and $30 for fans instead of purchasing a superior cooler upfront.

Your idea is to allocate $120 for a cooler and $30 for fans, but why not invest in a higher-quality cooler right away?
