Hello. Your old laptop runs Windows 10 with limited capabilities, and you're experiencing issues streaming YouTube at full quality. Upgrading to 4GB RAM should help, but you're curious about whether Linux would be lighter. Since you mainly use the internet and videos, a minimal OS could save power. Let me know if you'd like more details.

You can get the OS from official sources. Follow the installation instructions carefully, and yes, you can create a bootable USB ISO for installation.

You might also try remixing OS, an Android version for PC.

I've only used Android a bit, mostly bloatware. My moto G3 isn't super fast, but it works fine after the update to Android 6.

Have you ever used it? It runs extremely slowly on even my primary desktop computer, with numerous bugs and intrusive ads. Strongly advise against it, sorry.

Consider OpenBSD as an option.

Running Windows 7 on this setup is a good idea. The laptop has 4GB RAM with three usable slots, a Core 2 Duo processor and AMD graphics card. It’s from 2006 and handles YouTube at 60 frames per second without issues. Compared to other Windows versions, it performs much better.
