Hi everyone, I'm considering switching my Windows setup to Mint or another distribution that supports physical GPU access for gaming. Any suggestions on suitable options?

I haven't managed to install any of the games I enjoy on Linux with tools like Wine or PlayOnLinux. It seems they don't work properly, or I might not have the right skills to make them function even with help from Google.

To operate Windows inside Linux Mint using a dedicated GPU, consider employing KVM for a VM with GPU pass-through—provided your CPU offers the necessary virtualization features. If not, you may need to install a hypervisor such as XenServer or ESXi, which requires more effort.

KVM believes Linus might have used a similar approach for the 8 gamers build, and you should check that a bit more closely.

Linus relied on unraid, which probably includes KVM as well, though KVM works on any Linux distribution. Ensure your primary operating system has an integrated graphics card.

You need to research extensively online to determine if your system supports PCIe pass-through, or you can start exploring right away.

Exploring this idea would be exciting, especially after reviewing the material. It helps me set up a virtual PC for gaming and customize my main operating system.

The top advantage is capturing screenshots of the gameplay. Create a distinct virtual drive for your operating system and your gaming titles. You may notice improved performance with MDAM software RAID compared to Windows' built-in features, at least that's my experience.
