Steam works on Linux. It doesn’t need Wine. Uncertain if GTA V is available.

GTA V isn’t available for Linux, but I remember using Steam to play Robocraft there. Your comment led me to search, and I hadn’t realized CS:GO had a native Linux version.

I used to try WINE, think it runs smoothly in games, but it doesn’t really work with programs unless you're lucky. I’m not sure how much experience I have with it.

It would be logical for a game created by Valve to function within a tool they themselves developed.

Yes, it does, though not every valve title has a Linux version available.

Perhaps it's the third operating system to back Valve following Windows and Mac.

I recommend trying Linux Mint. It appears more appealing and the setup process is more seamless. Consider installing it on a USB drive and testing it firsthand. As others mentioned, you might want to revert to W7 since I remain there.

Steam appears compatible with Ubuntu and SteamOS, both backed by Valve officially. Visiting the Steam Store should list all titles that work on Linux. For users without Linux support, you might run Windows as a secondary OS to play games that can't be played on Linux. You could also use Windows 7, though support ends in 2020 and newer CPUs will no longer receive updates.

Test version 8.1, no random restart errors so far. You can still dualboot. If you really want Linux, try it and check it out.
