Hello, I received this motherboard a couple of weeks ago after my Asus X79 experienced some problems over time. At the moment, I’m facing difficulties with Linux installation. When I connected the new motherboard, I booted into Windows that was already installed, and after a few BSODs it functioned properly. I’m using Windows 8.1, and the loading screen resembles Windows Vista but only lasts for a short time. (It loads into the desktop in just 2 to 3 seconds after a fresh start, which is something I really appreciate.) However, when I tried to boot Linux—which was already installed—it would crash within a few seconds. Usually it freezes completely. The installation process for Debian 9.0 didn’t work at all; it froze instantly even after starting. I also attempted to install Debian 9.1 and the latest Ubuntu versions, but the same issue occurred. I adjusted BIOS settings and factory defaults, but all booted systems were without UEFI. The seller mentioned that half his customers use Linux and everything works fine. (He also claimed support for multi-GPU, which isn’t true, noted the ATX size is too big for ATX cases, and mentioned other unspecified issues.) I have a Chinese X79 motherboard with only four DDR3 slots, and I recall having Linux problems at first, but I don’t remember the exact cause or solution. I don’t think the error messages shown in the screenshots relate to the crashes—I had them before and everything worked. Do you have similar experiences? My system specs are: Intel i7 3.9GHz 8x 8GB Crucial Ballistix 1.6GHz CL8, AMD R9 390X.

Consider another arrangement? Occasionally the standard drivers included with the setup can cause issues.

Check the links provided. They seem to address issues related to database corruption or boot problems on specific distributions.

Certainly, thank you for your reply. As mentioned earlier, these error messages aren't related to the freeze problem—I'll attempt to use a different distribution, CentOS, and check it out.

The CentOS didn't assist, and the outcomes remained the same. Since no one has an idea, it seems like using their one-year warranty and contacting them might be the best approach.

When you inspect any x79 M.bo, it usually has only two SATA 3.0 ports and four SATA 2.0 ports. The board I received actually features four SATA 3.0 ports. This was done by attaching an extra controller. But the cheap ASMedia SATA driver lacks support for ATAPI commands, which prevents Linux distros with kernel versions after 2.6 from functioning properly. This issue also caused freezing. I essentially removed the two ports and connected them to a separate SATA controller via PCI-E, and everything worked afterward.

It was unusual to determine when the kernel stops responding. I noticed the pattern of behavior across versions. Also, it’s reassuring that everything is functioning properly again!
