Linux recommendation for some old laptop
the issue arises because OP requested a Linux-based system while you focused on BSD, possibly to demonstrate your knowledge of that OS. This doesn’t alter the main point: this forum is for asking questions and receiving answers that seem thoughtful. Second, @ringo had already provided useful guidance and was helping OP understand next steps, which made your reply positive. Then you joined in with a negative opinion about Linux, making the rest of the discussion less relevant.
It's clear @ringo overlooked the diversity of operating systems, so I thought his question meant "a non-Windows" system. I guess I was correct. Now why is he arguing against my idea in this discussion? Does it actually benefit the original person? Also, please note that I didn't call Linux "shit"—just that it doesn't suit the situation here.
OpenBSD is just one option among many, and Linux works well for you too. I've tried various distros like Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Elementary OS, and Linux Mint without issues. Most harmful downloads won't even activate Linux, so you should be safe. OP will handle most Linux versions easily.
