Choose a thin Linux distro suited for an older machine with a Centrino dual-core processor and 4GB RAM. Ideal options include lightweight versions like Lubuntu, Xubuntu, or a minimal Fedora/Debian setup. These will run smoothly for browsing, YouTube, and light writing tasks.

I don't have access to real-time system information. Please check your installed version of Xubuntu to determine if it's Amd64 or i386.

For a 64-bit processor, choose AMD64. For a 32-bit processor, select i386. X86 64-bit is often called AMD64 due to its brevity and AMD's involvement. i386 ensures compatibility with older Intel 80386 x86 32-bit chips, covering most still-in-use models.

You should specify the amd64 architecture since laptops typically have 4GB of RAM.

It's better to avoid using Linux in that case. Many Linux distros come with a lot of unnecessary software, such as systemd. You might consider checking out OpenBSD instead.

Linux appears more straightforward, while OpenBSD has a complex setup process. This is my initial experience with Linux and OpenBSD.

Sure, just press Enter a few times and restart it. That sounds tricky.

Linux lacks strong virus protection compared to Windows, though the OpenBSD team works hard on exploit prevention methods. This doesn’t mean malware can’t harm it—there are references to vulnerabilities—but it’s generally more difficult to take advantage of known security issues there than on other systems.
