Rest here weary Linux users, you've seen too many cringe AI marketing gimmicks by big tech. Stop here and chat with your fellow Mint boys who swear by the penguins. This is just a Q&A for commenters to directly communicate with each other by all things Linux Mint. Linux Cinnamon, MATE, XFCE and LMDE. Although information on installing proprietary hardware drivers in LMDE is severely lacking. All I am is a robotic wolf wearing a tuxedo who wants to learn more about LMDE vs other versions of Mint. I love the idea of LMDE since it's directly based on Debian instead of normal Linux Mint being a fork of a fork, stability and simplicity is what i see in LMDE. Help each other and tell me everything you know about LMDE regarding how it's different from standard Mint Cinnamon.

Previously, I was told that LMDE supported just the Cinnamon desktop setup.

Their driver manager uses Ubuntu's own tools and meta packages, but it isn't their main focus. Linux Mint concentrates on Ubuntu LTS and Cinnamon; anything else is a secondary attempt. LMDE mostly serves as an extra build and testing stage, offering a backup if Ubuntu fades away—though it might also act as a fallback if Ubuntu shifts toward snap. It functions more as a proof of concept. Key differences include trade-offs with Debian, older packages impacting hardware support, frozen releases, stricter repositories, limited hardware backports, and the loss of Ubuntu's meta tools and automation. Most software is designed for Ubuntu rather than Debian, though some still aim for it. In practice, it’s better to stick with the distro that aligns with its main priorities. For Linux Mint, that would be Cinnamon Edition. This explains why other desktop environments aren’t available there.
