You're looking for a BIOS or method to enable eMMC (or SD) boot on your Dell Inspiron 14 3000. It seems you want to keep the OS inside the laptop rather than installing it elsewhere. Check if your current BIOS supports eMMC or SD card installation, and explore options like using a USB flash drive as a bootable system.

Linux typically displays drives in /dev, not directly in fdisk. The specific display depends on the distribution and its kernel version. For example, Ubuntu 22.04 uses a different interface setup compared to older distributions like Debian or Fedora. Always check your system documentation for exact behavior.

When you start from the USB or Live Disk, the system displays the connected drive. The operating system is Mint 18 with Xfce (sorry, I don’t have the exact kernel version).

Is the drive listed in the installer? You can add Grub to it, but it won’t boot directly from there.

Sure, I can try that. It seems like the system isn't starting properly.

Is this a boot choice? Have you explored another distribution? Have you attempted to install GRUB directly?

No? SD isn't listed as a boot choice? I mentioned that earlier, I'm sure. On the other hand, no—I haven't. This is definitely a BIOS issue. eMMC is treated like an SD card and isn't recognized for booting. It seems Microsoft added a small security feature when installing unsigned software? I really don’t know how to set up GRUB.
