I’m just starting with Linx and sometimes see this alert. See the picture here. I’m used to Windows; my laptop came from a family member who passed away a while back.

I'm sorry for your loss. Based on my limited Linux knowledge, it seems the hard drive might be failing or the operating system could be damaged. I would try to boot from a live CD of Ubuntu to check if it can access the drive. If that doesn't work, it's likely the drive is no longer functional.

There seems to be an issue with your hard drive, probably related to partitions. Consider booting into live Linux and using gparted to investigate. You can then run various tools online, such as those for Linux installation repair. Search for "repairing linux install" for more guidance.
