I received my fiancé's old student laptop from a year ago or more, and I thought about using it as a dedicated upload system once I finish editing content. However, I spotted something concerning—currently it’s running at full CPU capacity, and I’ve attached a screenshot. I’m wondering if this 1.6GHz Celeron system can be preserved in Linux so I can still utilize it.

Linux might be a solution. The fact that Windows 10 is being updated likely accounts for the increased CPU usage, which severely affects my laptop's A8 4555M until the patches are applied.

she received a 4GB system initially, but we upgraded it with 8GB Corsair DDR3 RAM and a 1TB 5400RPM SSD.

Linux options vary based on the distribution you choose. You'll find many choices, but Lite Linux and Lubuntu (based on Ubuntu) offer a balance of simplicity and usability. For those seeking a more hands-on experience, Puppy Linux might interest you, though each has its own learning curve.

Hey, the font is small. It's 1:30 AM—take it easy. @vESP, maybe Lubuntu or a full Ubuntu 17.04 version is reaching out. I really like Lubuntu and Xubuntu for older or low-power setups.

Puppy Linux helped me preserve my old Atom-based ultra-small setup. It’s impressive how it can keep a 2009 system running.
